I am pleased to announce that Ginger (and I) delivered five lovely babies on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 9th, 2010. The new family is comprised of one blonde boy, one black boy, one brown boy and two lovely brown girls! The blonde one looks just like Mom and Dad but all the rest make me wonder if the Milkman has a dog?! Actually, this is very typical of the Havanese breed. They come in a variety of flavors! Ultimately they are all beautiful. They are strong and healthy. Ginger did amazingly well during the delivery. What an adventure that was. She is, as predicted, a wonderful Mother. Together we had all the babies out, weighed and cleaned in less than four hours (although she was technically in labour for over 24 hours). Phew! This has been an extraordinary experience (intellectually and emotionally) and the FUN has just begun! Within three weeks the babies will be wide-eyed and “all ears” and out and about exploring their world. I will keep you posted and I will be bringing the babies into the zoo periodically once they are old enough (in about a month I think... or sooner if the vet says it's ok). (I gotta get back to work to pay for all this.)
I want to thank everyone who has supported me through this great adventure and learning process with your interest and understanding, your kindness and good deeds, and your words of encouragement and advice. I hope you all get a chance to come soak up a cuddle from the precious puppies before they go to their loving Forever Families. (I will be keeping one of the little girls (didn't you see that coming??). She shall be known as “Empress Josephine”... Empress Josephine was Napoleon Bonaparte's first wife and renowned for her charm. She led a fascinating (and strange and difficult) life! She lived through a very tumultuous time in the history of humanity. There is a beautiful pink rose named in her honour: www.canadaram.com/nurserysite/clubs/peninsular/elliott/EmpressJosephine.
In case some of you are wondering... yes, there was a sixth baby but she did not make it. That special little girl will be the Guardian Angel who looks out for all her brothers and sisters as they make their way in this big ol' crazy world and as they proceed with their own special journey ahead; everybody needs at least one Angel to help guide them through a life. And everybody has a special job to do – even Angels... especially Angels... so that little girl will help remind us how precious... and sometimes difficult...life is.
Sincerely, Carol, Maggie, Ginger and the “kids”.
Applications and deposits are being accepted. Puppies will go fast! Priced at $1000 (plus the cost of spay and neuter which will be held in trust until the time of spaying/neutering).

Both parents are healthy and the Havanese breed is famous for their loyalty and companionship. They are athletic and love a good hike but the most important thing is that they are very people oriented and need to be with their family.
